Crypto Salaries After Employee Lawsuit

Crypto is taking over Dubai, especially in the workplace. Following an employee's lawsuit, a Dubai court recognized cryptocurrencies as a legitimate option for salary payments on August 16. The employee claimed that his employer had failed to pay him his salary and bonus after an unjust dismissal. He filed a lawsuit and the court ruled in his favor. According to the employment contracts, the employee was entitled to receive a bonus worth 5,250 EcoWatt Tokens (EWT). However, the employer refused to pay both the salary and the bonus.

This legal development was also confirmed by Irina Heaver, a partner at NeosLegal law firm in the United Arab Emirates. The ruling in case number 1739 reflects the court's evolving stance on cryptocurrencies as a form of salary, Heaver noted. A year earlier, a similar lawsuit filed by another employee had been dismissed.

A Positive Precedent for Digital Currencies

The adoption of cryptocurrencies as a method for salary payment marks a significant milestone and advances the legal acceptance of tokens in the financial sector. However, concrete evidence remains crucial. When another employee filed a lawsuit last year, it was dismissed because he couldn't provide sufficient proof to establish the value of the EWT token.

EcoWatt is a sustainable crypto token backed by green energy projects. However, its transparency is somewhat lacking, and its connection to Dubai is unclear. Furthermore, its price cannot be easily found on major crypto exchanges.
