Prosecutors are asking a judge to send Jatinder Singh to jail after he spent millions of dollars that were mistakenly refunded to him by Crypto.com. The situation started in May 2021 when Singh tried to deposit $100 into his Crypto.com account. However, the transaction was declined due to a mismatch in account names. Instead of returning the $100, a mistake by a Bulgarian employee resulted in $10.47 million being refunded to his partner's account.

Believing he had won an online lottery, Singh spent millions on real estate and gifts. Once Crypto.com discovered the error, Singh had his partner transfer $4 million to Malaysia. She was later arrested while trying to flee. Singh has pleaded guilty to stealing $6.09 million. While his defense team is asking for leniency, noting he has already spent a year in custody, prosecutors are pushing for a prison sentence. The court is expected to sentence Singh later this month, while his former partner received a lighter sentence last year.
