In October 2024, the "Rumbo País 2024" survey was presented, offering a comprehensive examination of Salvadorans' perceptions and expectations in the face of the country's challenges and realities. Conducted through in-person interviews with 1,224 participants aged 18 and over, the survey provides a detailed snapshot of public opinion with a margin of error of ±2.8% and a confidence level of 95%.
Demographic and Socioeconomic Conditions
The results reveal that the majority of respondents (71.4%) reside in urban areas, with a strong concentration in the 30 to 49-year age group. Regarding employment, only 29.5% of participants are currently employed, while around 37.8% have completed formal education, highlighting the challenges in both job availability and educational quality.
Additionally, 39.5% of respondents are single, and 45.7% report that their family budget is very tight, underscoring the economic insecurity facing many households.
Political Perceptions and Institutional Trust
President Nayib Bukele enjoys significant approval, with an average score of 8.43 out of 10, reflecting strong support. The institutions most trusted by citizens are the armed forces and the national civil police. Despite this, 76.4% of respondents support the state of emergency, although 36.3% acknowledge instances of unjustified arrests in their communities.
On a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 represents "very poor" and 10 represents "excellent," respondents rated President Nayib Bukele with an average of 8.43 points. However, the acceptance of Bitcoin remains low, with only 7.5% of those surveyed using Bitcoin for transactions, indicating limited adoption within the population.
Economic Aspects and Future Expectations
More than half of the respondents rate their current economic situation as average, with 87.4% having not received a salary adjustment recently. Rising food costs are the most pressing economic concern for 66.8% of participants, reflecting the impact of inflation on family budgets.
Looking to the future, 52.4% believe that improving education should be the top priority for the country's progress. Despite facing economic and social challenges, 58.2% of Salvadorans remain optimistic about the future of their "crypto nation."
