Kamala Harris and Crypto: Campaign Takes a Cautious Approach
Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign is unlikely to focus heavily on cryptocurrency policy, according to sources familiar with her team's discussions. While crypto advocates are in talks with her campaign, they don’t expect detailed crypto policies before the U.S. elections.
Harris recently acknowledged the importance of "innovative technologies like AI and digital assets" but was intentionally broad in her remarks. Discussions with crypto insiders, including executives from Ripple Labs and Coinbase, suggest the campaign is making progress, though detailed policies remain distant.
Coinbase’s Chief Legal Officer, Paul Grewal, noted that Harris’ understanding of the crypto industry is improving but emphasized that fully developed crypto policies may take time. Both the Harris and Trump campaigns have engaged in frequent discussions with crypto industry leaders, though concrete policies are unlikely to emerge soon.
Trump, now a strong crypto supporter, has also shifted his rhetoric. He is promoting pro-digital assets policies and DeFi business ventures, aiming to make the U.S. a leader in the crypto space.
Crypto considerations could influence voters in the upcoming election, with polling suggesting the "crypto voter" could play a role in November.
