Starting September 4, 2024, the Zürcher Kantonalbank will offer the trading and secure custody of Bitcoin and Ethereum. This service is seamlessly integrated into the bank’s existing platforms and is available to both customers and third-party banks.
As a universal bank, Zürcher Kantonalbank expands its range of services to include cryptocurrency trading and custody. Beginning on the specified date, customers will be able to trade cryptocurrencies 24/7 through ZKB eBanking or ZKB Mobile Banking, with Bitcoin and Ethereum being the initial options. These cryptocurrency holdings will be directly integrated into the existing portfolio view.
Secure Custody
The secure storage of digital assets is a top priority for Zürcher Kantonalbank. By taking responsibility for the custody of private keys, the bank relieves its customers and third-party banks of the need to manage their own wallets. Alexandra Scriba, Head of Institutional Clients & Multinationals, highlights that the service not only ensures secure custody but also paves the way for future expansion to include additional currencies and applications.
Service Available to Third-Party Banks
Third-party banks can also leverage Zürcher Kantonalbank's cryptocurrency solutions for their own clients. Thurgauer Kantonalbank is the first partner bank to utilize this service. The trades are executed through Crypto Finance AG, a subsidiary of Deutsche Börse Group.
